Word to Mainframe Conversion Tool
SolveITLabs team was contacted to develop a software tool that
converts WordPerfect and Microsoft Word files (text and formatting
codes) created on desctop PC to a proprietary code. This
proprietary code is used when displaying the document on the IBM
mainframe with the customer proprietary tool. This tool allows
preparing documents on your PC, using the word processing software
of your choice. Using this tool, you can see how the document will
look on the mainframe before actually uploading the document.
The tool conversion is based on WordPerfect®
and Microsoft Word® codes. However, any of several other of dozen
PC word processing packages can be used to write the help text.
Word for WordT (the format conversion system available on request
as part of the conversion tool package) allows converting the
source document (your PC word processing file) to WordPerfect
format quickly and easily.
- This tool allows writing and maintaining online documentation
using your favorite PC word processing software. You can also use
existing documentation without having to re-key the text.
(Without this tool, most of the online documentation must be
written and maintained online, and mainframe text editors are
often less powerful and more difficult to use than PC word
processing software.)
- This converts many of the formatting codes in the PC source
document. This eliminates or greatly reduces the number of
modifications required to display the document online.
- This provides simulation of the mainframe display on the PC.
You can see exactly what the document will look like before
uploading in mainframe.
- The tool editor allows modifying the converted file without
going back to the word processor. Changes appear immediately in
the simulation.
- The tool formats online help windows for display in
proprietary format. You can set the size, format, and display
position of the window, create selection windows, and much more.
